Subject: RAIN WITH WIND/THUNDERSTORM PREDICTED FROM 10TH TO 15TH APRIL
Pakistan Meteorological Department has informed that rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Jamshoro, and Sanghar on 13th & 14th April. However, isolated rain-wind/thunderstorm is also expected in Karachi and Hyderabad during the period.
Possible Impacts
Wind/thunderstorm and lightning may damage standing crops, loose structures like electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels, etc., during the period.
Farmers, especially in wheat harvested areas, are advised to manage their crops according to weather conditions.
Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary traveling during the wet period.
Temperatures are likely to drop during the wet spell.
In view of the above, the Deputy Commissioner(s)/ Chairman DDMA(s), Line Departments, and other relevant Authorities/Stakeholders are requested to take necessary precautionary measures including:
Ensure availability of dewatering machines and staff during rainfall.
Improve coordination with emergency services and various line departments.
Establish a helpline cell number to address the needs of affected people on a priority basis.
Ensure availability of uninterrupted power supply through intimate coordination with concerned line departments and provision/availability of standby generators for hospitals.
Keep emergency services and ambulances with trained paramedics available round the clock.
Coordinate with concerned departments (NHA, NH&MP, and FWO) for issuing necessary alerts to travelers, especially over long distances, to take precaution and avoid overexposure to rainfall.
Ensure removal of vulnerable billboards, falling trees, loose electric wires, electric poles, etc.
Coordinate with Rescue 1122 Authorities.
For General Public
Monitor the weather alerts through print media, electronic media, & social media.
Stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. Keep doors and windows shut and avoid sitting near windows as rain is often accompanied by strong winds.
Maintain a distance from power lines or electrical wires. If you notice any loose electric wires in your area, alert the authorities immediately.
Avoid touching electrical switches or outlets while it is raining. Do not try using electrical sockets or outlets outdoors while it is raining.
Avoid driving in heavy rain because of poor visibility.
Avoid underpasses, drainage ditches, low-lying areas, and areas where water collects.
Check on family members who are especially at risk from weather hazards: young children, older adults, and the chronically ill.
Avoid parking near walls, weak structures, & under trees.
